Bucephalandra ‘Dark Catherinae’ – XXL Clump

An absolutely spectacular XXL Bucephalandra ‘Dark Catherinae’ clump, featuring incredibly dark foliage with striking deep blue to blue-green tones and heavily rippled leaf margins.

Unlike the brighter green appearance of standard Catherinae, Dark Catherinae develops significantly deeper colouration, giving the foliage an almost metallic blue-black appearance. The long, narrow and strongly undulated leaves create an incredibly textured, dramatic plant that stands out amongst other Bucephalandra varieties.

This specimen is emersed grown and is an exceptionally large, mature clump with multiple growth points, masses of established foliage and an incredible root system. Red tones through the stems and newer growth provide even more contrast against the dark leaves.

Emersed to Submerged Transition

Please note that this specimen is supplied emersed grown and will need to transition to fully submerged aquarium conditions.

During this transition, some leaf melt, deterioration or complete loss of existing emersed leaves can occur. This is a normal possibility when transitioning Bucephalandra from emersed to submerged growth and does not necessarily mean the plant is dying.

Provided the rhizomes and roots remain healthy, the plant can recover and produce new foliage adapted specifically to submerged conditions. Due to the size and maturity of this specimen, it has an extremely well-developed root system and numerous established growth points to support its transition.

Stable water parameters, good water quality, adequate nutrients and CO₂ are strongly recommended during establishment.

As with all Bucephalandra, never bury the rhizome beneath the substrate. Attach the plant to rock, driftwood or other hardscape with the rhizome exposed.
